Iteris is proud to join the Florida LTAP Center in presenting a three-part webinar series on Traffic Signal Timing 201 – Detection, Preemption/Priority & Coordination. Presented by Iteris' Peter Yauch and John Albeck, the series is divided into three two-hour webinars that build upon the Traffic Signal Timing 101 program and is designed to provide participants with an understanding of advanced signalized intersection control topics. This series addresses the basics of detection technologies and design, signal preemption and priority, and traffic signal coordination.
Learning Objectives
- Understand technologies used for the detection of all road users.
- Understand vehicular detection strategies for low speed and high-speed approaches.
- Understand ADA / PROWAG accessibility considerations for pedestrian detection.
- Understand the applications for preemption and priority, and their benefits and impacts.
- Understand the basics of traffic signal coordination, including cycle length, split, offset and sequence.
Each session will award two professional development hours (PDHs) each. A total of six PDHs can be earned for fully attending all three sessions.
Part 1 of 3 – Detection Technologies and Design (3/10/2021)
In this first session, we will introduce the course, along with its objectives, goals, and a glossary of terms. We will also discuss the following topics: History, Inductive Loops, Microwave, Video, Pedestrian Detection, Low-Speed Approaches, High-Speed Approaches, and Pedestrian (ADA / PROWAG) Considerations.
Part 2 of 3 – Preemption and Priority (3/17/2021)
In this second session, we will cover the following topics: Railroad, Drawbridge, Emergency Vehicle Preemption, Transit, and Freight Priority.
Part 3 of 3 – Basics of Coordination and Pattern Selection/Deployment (3/24/2021)
In this third session, we will cover the following topics: Cycle Length, Split, Offset, Sequence, Coordination Optimization Tools, Pattern Implementation, Fine Tuning, Time of Day Schedules, Traffic Responsive Operation, and Adaptive Control.
