Last week, transportation experts from across the nation gathered in Grapevine, Texas for the 28th Annual ITS America Conference and Expo. With more than 10,000 attendees and 2,000 exhibitors, the event brought together transportation professionals, government officials, academics, and industry leaders to discuss and showcase the latest advancements in intelligent transportation systems.
Day one of the event kicked off with a VIP tour of the exhibition floor led by President and CEO of ITS America Laura Chase, which stopped by and gave us the opportunity to showcase our products and services to officials from the US Department of Transportation, the Build America Bureau, Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, the Texas Department of Transportation, and more. After lunch, the exhibit floor was buzzing with activity, and the Iteris booth saw a lot of traffic, where our team was able to meet with attendees and engage with other vendors.
The week continued with lots of excitement and valuable connections, as well as a few stellar sessions that our team members spoke at, including:
- Ram Kandarpa: ITS at Core of Use Cases for Infrastructure
- Niloo Parvinashtiani, P.E.: Exchanging Data for Connected and Automated Vehicle Deployments
- Cliff Heise: Connecting Equity, Emerging Technology, and Education in Digital Infrastructure (pictured above)
- Viggen Davidian: ITS Applications and Projects for Safer, Faster and Greener Border Crossings
- Masoud Hamedi: Machine Learning Approach to Intersection Safety Scoring using CV Data
A particular highlight for some of our team members was a great talk by Polly Trottenberg, the USDOT deputy secretary. Her advice was clear—be as prepared as possible when seeking funding or competing for grants. This is an issue Iteris knows well, and the reason we have a grants help page for agencies to contact our experts for assistance.
Overall, it was a wonderful event and a great opportunity to connect with the industry. Iteris VP Tim Fox said it best: “As always, these events provide me with internal team connection, broader networking, ideation through exposure and discussions, and alignment with the industry narrative and direction.”
We can’t wait to see everyone next year in Phoenix!
